Manchester United are looking to continue their efforts at signing the best young talents from around the world, with The Red Devils remaining firmly in the race for an exciting South American prospect.
Heading into the January transfer window, United already have some players on their radar.
A big one for some time now is Rosenborg’s Sverre Halseth Nypan, the Norwegian midfielder who terrorised The Red Devils with a 1-0 loss to the Norwegian side in the pre-season.
Whilst United have been interested in the 17-year-old, due to his age, Brexit rules meant that the Premier League side could not officially move for the midfielder until he is 18, which will be in December. It’s expected that United will make a move for Nypan and then loan him back to Rosenborg for the rest of the season if they do go ahead with their interest.
Another midfield target is Chris Rigg from Sunderland, whose been labelled as the next Jude Bellingham.
Rigg has recently become one of the youngest players to make 30 appearances in the Championship and is a key component of Sunderland’s campaign. However, with interest from United and Borussia Dortmund, it’s expected that Rigg will be moving clubs in January.
Now, however, another recurring name has arisen once more, with United facing off against top clubs for his signature.
Manchester United continue their interest in Franco Mastantuono
Reports from AS, one of the leading Spanish sports newspapers is that United are still very interested in signing Franco Mastantuono from River Plate.
The report explains that despite a release clause of £33.3 million (€40 million) several top European clubs are fighting it out for Mastantuono’s signature.
AC Milan, PSG and Chelsea are all rivalling United for the attacking midfielder who’s scored the goals with two assists in 33 games this season, primarily coming on off the bench with only eleven starts.
Back in September, Mastantuono spoke to Argentinian outlet Ole about the interest from Europe, saying: “Today, I am 100 per cent here at River.”
He continued: “We have something very important ahead of us like the Cup and next year there is the Club World Cup, which is also a dream for me. I don’t think about (the rumours),
“(But) I like watching a lot of European football. Especially the Premier League, which is very entertaining.”
Whilst these comments firmly keep the 17-year-old at River Plate for now, he’s also kept the door open for any potential move.
