Manchester United are looking ahead to the January transfer window to solidify their team further after an eventful summer window.
Whilst the summer was spent concentrating on their defence, focus in now turning to the midfield, with reinforcements needed in the middle of the pitch.
Casemiro and Christian Eriksen have been deemed surplus to requirements by Ruben Amorim, with the Portuguese manager wanting to make sales in January.
However, in their place, United are still looking for an ideal number eight to fit into Amorim’s play style.
The primary candidate at this time is Bayern Munich’s Leon Goretzka, who’s been on United’s radar for some time now.
Florian Plettenberg has reported that United are still monitoring his situation, however, unfortunately for the Red Devils, he has no interest in leaving Bayern this winter.
However, Goretzka has previously reported that if situations at Bayern don’t change, he would be looking to move in the summer, which would mark the start of his final contracted year with the German giants.
The Sky Sports reporter has also announced that United are still looking for an affordable striker, with the only two currently identified being Viktor Gyokeres of Sporting Lisbon and Benjamin Sesko of RB Leipzig.
The Red Devils have competition in the pair from Bayern Munich, however United may have the advantage of securing Gyokeres down the line thanks to the links with Amorim.
However, much like Goretzka, Gyokeres has expressed he has no interest in leaving Sporting at this time.
