Ruben Amorim is now in his third week at Old Trafford, with the Portuguese manager now knowing what is expected of him.
The Red Devils had been struggling for some time under the reign of Erik ten Hag, with a series of disappointing results seeing them fall down the league table.
The appointment of Amorim however has brought a lot of excitement that he can turn the club around like he did with Sporting Lisbon.
Now, the executive board have made the 39-year-old aware of their expectations for the club under his leadership.
Manchester United’s expectations under Ruben Amorim
Omar Berrada commented: “The season is now well underway for both our men’s and women’s team, and we are keen to ensure both are as competitive as possible.
“We are delighted to have appointed Ruben Amorim as head coach of our men’s team and remain committed to returning Manchester United to the top of domestic and European football.”
This aim to return United to the top of English and European football is a massive task, however, one that’s been on the cards for some time.
United need to secure Champions League football for next year, meaning a top-four finish in this year’s Premier League to avoid a penalty with sponsors Adidas. The failure to qualify would see the club fined £10 million, having a knock on to financial pressures.
Speaking about club finances, Berrada continued: “Our cost and headcount reductions remain on track, and we are pleased to have seen further commercial traction, and welcome new partner Heineken, through their Tiger brand.
United made an operating loss of £6.9m for the first quarter of the 2024/25 season, being hit hard by a lack of Champions League football and the costs of their brutal redundancy programme.
The club has, however, previously claimed their restructuring will have a positive impact on their financial results for 2025 and 2026 and expect to save around £40m to £45m with their cuts.
Speaking of the other work the club are completing, Berrada commented: “Our renovation of the Carrington Training Centre is progressing well, while the Old Trafford Regeneration Task Force continues its work.
“Once it has delivered its recommendations, we will then take some time to digest them and evaluate all our options in the upcoming year.”
