The future of Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford currently hangs in the balance as the Manchester United executive board is due to meet twice in two days this week.
This week saw United add another two draws to their recent results, with a 3-3 draw to Porto in the Europa League and a goalless draw to Aston Villa in the Premier League.
Unfortunately, these won’t have been the results that ten Hag was hoping for to truly secure his job at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils now sit in 14th in the Premier League, only five points above relegation, and in 21st in the Europa League.

Now, heading into the international break, United’s board of executives are poised to meet for their monthly committee meeting regarding the operations of the club, in Manchester on Monday and in London on Tuesday.
The future of Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford
Reports from ESPN have claimed that United have privately admitted that they are keen to avoid sacking Erik ten Hag.
The Dutchman has retained that faith of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his associates for now, with ten Hag being granted an extension at the start of the summer, however, the club has slipped even further since then.
The executive committee that comprises of Ratcliffe, Sir Dave Brailsford, Dan Ashworth, Omar Berrada, Jason Wilcox and Joel Glazer all attended United’s game with Villa at Villa Park, except Glazer.
However, Joel Glazer is set to arrive in the UK today to attend the meetings which could well discuss ten Hag’s future.
United attempt to avoid sacking ten Hag
The report from ESPN explains that the club are keen to avoid parting ways with ten Hag after £200 million has been spent on transfers this summer.
It’s also understood that after extending ten Hag’s contract by another 12 months, the club would have to pay the Dutchman around £17.5 million in compensation if they were to part ways.
It’s also worth noting that the list of available coaches to replace ten Hag hasn’t changed a whole lot since they deemed the Dutchman was the right man for the job at the start of the summer.
Recently it’s been reported that the plan if ten Hag is to be sacked would be to promote Ruud van Nistelrooy into the position of interim manager until the summer, when the club can appoint a new full-time manager.
The likes of Thomas Tuchel and Thomas Frank have re-emerged as potential replacement recently, however meetings with Tuchel at the start of the summer saw the German manager walk away from the opportunity.
