Whilst Erik ten Hag has managed to retain his role for a second time this international break, he is far from safe in the job.
No news of ten Hag being sacked emerged from Manchester United’s executive committee meetings last week, which in turn showed their stance of standing by the Dutchman.
This is the second time that United have shown confidence in him, firstly at the start of the summer after an eighth-place finish in the Premier League last season. After this, Sir Jim Ratcliffe extended his contract by 12 months and the club spent close to £200 million on transfer for his squad.
Now, only a matter of months later the club is once more assessing if a new manager is needed, costing them £17.5 million to part ways, £7.5 million more than if they had sacked him in the summer.
In case the club do need to part ways with the Dutchman, United are routinely reviewing their shortlist of potential replacements.
Their top choice, Thomas Tuchel has recently taken on the role of England national head coach, forcing United to once more return to the drawing board.

Whilst Gareth Southgate was considered, he’s currently taking time out of management, silencing rumours that he may take the role, with Edin Terzic also being considered.
However, now a new name has jumped to the top of the list.
Manchester United contact Vincenzo Montella to replace Erik ten Hag
The new name being linked with United is the manager of Turkey’s national team, Vincenzo Montella.
Reports from Turkish reporter Salim Manav claim that The Red Devils have already held a meeting with Montella’s manager about joining the club.
The 50-year-old has already managed some high-profile clubs, including AS Roma, Fiorentina, AC Milan and Sevilla, before taking up the Turkish management role in 2023.
The Italian international is expected to remain with the Turkish national team until 2026, however, United may be able to lure him to Old Trafford if they decide a fresh face is needed.
