Manchester United are up against some of their top Premier League rivals in a race for their new defensive target.

The Red Devils are still looking at building their squad to fit Ruben Amorim’s system, with most of the team assembled under Erik ten Hag.

Now, with reports of veteran centre-back Jonny Evans retiring at the end of the season and Victor Lindelof’s contract coming to an end, at least one new centre-back is needed.

As such, United’s recruitment team have turned to Bournemouth’s Dean Huijsen as a strong candidate to reinforce the defence.

The 19-year-old recently earned his first cap for Spain in their Quarter-Final matches against the Netherlands in the UEFA Nations League, grabbing an assist in the second leg.

Now, Spanish outlet AS has confirmed that United aren’t alone in their pursuit of Huijsen.

United are having to face off against strong rivals Liverpool and Chelsea in thier pursuit of Huijsen.

The young defender moved from Juventus in the summer for a fee of £13 million and has since become a focal point in the Bournemouth defence.

With 27 games for The Cherries already and two goals, including one against United, Huijsen has been vital in keeping Bournemouth in the top half of the table.

However, the Premier League trio aren’t the only clubs taking notice, with Real Madrid also interested in the centre-back.

With Huijsen being a fan of the LaLiga giants, it’s expected that they have the edge going into the summer transfer window.

Huijsen’s contract with the Cherries is in place until 2030, meaning that Bournemouth have no pressure on them at all to sell their star defender.

That said, the 19-year-old does have a £50 million release clause to by-pass negotiations with Bournemouth if any club wishes to trigger it.
