Last season, Manchester United were plagued with injury, and this season looks no different.
Returning from the international break, United face Brentford on the weekend. however Erik ten Hag goes into the match with several of his top choices ruled out through injury.
Whilst long-term injuries Leny Yoro, Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia are having a big affect on the defensive line-up, the loss of Noussair Mazraoui is a critical injury for the club to negotiate.
Already playing Diogo Dalot on the left, now ten Hag will need to have someone play as a replacement to Mazraouri, or put Diogo back in his natural place of right-back and cover the left.
Earlier in the week it was reported that ten Hag is looking at Jonny Evans as a temporary left-back fix, but with Harry Maguire also out, all plans are now up in the air.
Alongside these five being definitely unavailable, there are question marks around another five.
Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho both withdrew from international duties through injury, with no timeframe on Mason Mount’s return yet known.
Reports have also claimed that Amad Diallo and Manuel Ugarte also have question marks over them, however their availability is yet to be seen.
With a potential ten men missing from the match-up with Brentford, ten Hag’s starting line-up at the moment is anyone’s guess.
However, despite the injuries, ten Hag still needs to get results.
This international break saw the Dutchman retain his job for the second time, despite questions around the club’s performances under his management.
United currently sit in 14th in the Premier League, only five points above the relegation zone.
So, for the club and for his own tenure, Erik ten Hag really needs to come out of the game with a win over Brentford.
