Manchester United have now confirmed their 25-man squad for the Europa League.
The Red Devils gained entry to the European competition after winning the FA Cup Final against Manchester City in the final match of the season. Goals from academy graduates Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho sealed the 2-1 victory. As such, it’s odd to see that both men have been left out of the announced team list.
Erik ten Hag has opted for a squad predominantly made up of defenders, suggesting a very reserved style of play when going forwards.
So, the squad list that’s been announced is as follows:
Goalkeepers: Bayindir, Tom Heaton, Andre Onana, Dermot Mee
Defence: Victor Lindelöf, Noussair Mazraoui, Matthijs de Ligt, Harry Maguire, Lisandro Martínez, Tyrell Malacia, Leny Yoro, Diogo Dalot, Luke Shaw, Jonny Evans, Harry Amass
Midfield: Mason Mount, Bruno Fernandes, Christian Eriksen, Casemiro, Manuel Ugarte
Attack: Rasmus Højlund, Marcus Rashford, Joshua Zirkzee, Amad Diallo, Antony
Apart from Garnacho and Mainoo being left out of the squad, the squad list is fairly as expected, however the inclusion of Casemiro, Christian Eriksen and Antony suggests the club are not likely to offload the trio in the coming days.
Casemiro has been linked with a move to Galatasaray, having now been reported as not wanting the move and instead wanting to fight for his spot at United. His inclusion in the squad list twill definitely have given him a boost, especially with Toby Collyer not being selected, despite replacing Casemiro in United’s recent 3-0 loss to Liverpool.
