Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim has described the 2-1 win over Manchester City as incredible, heaping praises on his players for their stunning performance at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
The Red Devils scored two goals in two minutes to stun the hosts, who had led through Joskol Gvardiol’s header in the first half.
Amad Diallo was the star of the show for Manchester United, he won the penalty which was converted by Bruno Fernandes for the first goal before he scored a stunning effort in the 90th minute to seal the victory.
The buildup to the game was dominated with discussions around Marcus Rashford, and Alejandro Garnacho, who were dropped for the game by Ruben Amorim.
The Portuguese manager provided an update for their absence in the encounter, demanding that the players should improve their standards.
He said: “It’s important to say why: it was not a disciplinary thing, Next week, next game, new life, they are fighting for their places.
“For me it’s important, the performance in training, the performance in games, the way you dress, the way you eat, the way you engage with teammates, the way you push your teammates.
“Everything is important in our context in the beginning of something when we want to change a lot of things, when people in our club are losing their jobs we have to set the standards really high and for that they have to fight for a place in the team.
“Today the team proved we can leave anyone out of the squad and manage to win if you play together. If it was disciplinary, I would say that here and it will be a bigger problem but was not that.”
Amorim was full of praise for his players for battling to a vital win over out of sorts Manchester City.
He said: : “It was incredible. I think we deserved it. It was a very tough match but we believe until the end. We managed to score, we needed that win, it was important for us and for our fans.
“We were in the game for 90 minutes and that is very good. We talk about the Arsenal game, we played well in the first half but they were not believing that we could win. Today was so much more different.
“I also believe. Then we have Fergie time and we put the things together and something magic happened. It was a good day for us.
“They [the fans] need it. Just like us, but you can see the way they celebrate is special. But we need to continue. Our club needs to win these kinds of matches, I understand the happiness of our fans but we need to continue.
“With a victory for City, the performance was the same. We need to improve a lot of things but today the guys deserved the win. They were in it until the last minute and that is important for us.”
Manchester City’s poor run of form continues with just one win in 11 games in all competitions.
The win takes Manchester United’s tally to 22 points from 16 games in the 13th position, while Man City are in the fifth position on the log with 27 points from same number of games.
