The injury crisis facing Manchester United defenders has been one of the worst across the English Premier League.
Not only was the backline ravaged last season, but this new campaign has also been hit by injury.
With another defensive minded player in Manuel Ugarte picking up an injury now too, it seems like the bad news never stops.
But there is a glimmer of hope in the sea of sadness.
That’s because a long term injured player is set to make an imminent return for the Manchester United first team.
One of the areas of the pitch that United have suffered the most is in left back.
Both senior players in that position, Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, have spent hugely extended periods on the injury table.
In the case of Malacia, fans have been left perplexed with the amount of time spent on the sidelines.
Back in October 2023, there was hope that the defender would be back in the new year.
That time came and went with the former Feyenoord defender out of contention.
But it seems that may be changing.
Dutch football magazine Voetball International has now provided an update on Tyrell Malacia with it being great news for both the player and fans.
According to the publication, they’ve been informed by insiders that Malacia is very close to playing again and could even return to action before the end of this month.
Rightfully, Manchester United are taking his return with caution due to the length of time he’s been out injured.
But Voetball believe that if he’s not back this month, then he’ll be back in early November.
That’d be great news to have the player back.
Tyrell Malacia joined Manchester United in 2022 and made a great impression in his first season at Old Trafford.
Since then, however, he’s been out for longer than he’s been available and everyone will be hoping that this return will be for the long term.
With United having to use Diogo Dalot in that position to mixed results, Malacia being reintegrated into the first team squad couldn’t come too soon.
