Manchester United has been a mess this season more so on the pitch, the most recent undoing being that embarrassing 4-0 capitulation at the hands of Crystal Palace on Monday night.

The looming rebuild under new management INEOS virtually means lots of business is expected and the rumours and the reports of players linked with the club have been right on cue.

The latest of these is Inter Milan and Netherlands defender Denzel Dumfries.

According to Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport, contract negotiations between Inter and Dumfries have stalled, with his current deal set to expire in 2025.

Consequently, Dumfries would have to leave Inter this summer according to the report.

With his current contract expiring next year, Inter would have to sell him this summer lest they lose him for free next.

The report goes ahead to suggest Dumfries would be open to a move to Manchester should they come knocking.

A deal is more likely to happen if fellow Dutchman Erik ten Hag remains in charge at Old Trafford according to the report, something that is seeming more and more unlikely with every terrible result.

Dumfries would make an excellent addition to a Manchester United that has been struggling so much defensively with the numbers speaking for themselves.

3 games to the end of the season and ten Hag’s Reds are on negative goal difference, something unheard of for a United side.

They are on course to finish the season with less points than that truly unremarkable season that cost David Moyes his job at the Theatre of Dreams ten years ago.
