This summer saw Manchester United offload Donny van de Beek to Girona for £416,000.
The Dutch midfielder arrived at Old Trafford back in 2020 for £32 million after an impressive run with Ajax, after being promoted from their academy.
Whilst with the Eredivisie side, van de Beek made 175 appearances, with 41 goals and 34 assists, winning the Eredivisie league title, the Toto KNVB Beker cup and the Johan Cruijff Schaal.
However, upon moving to Manchester, things didn’t work out too well for the 27-year-old.

Whilst he featured in every game in his first season, his involvement in the squad then started to dwindle. Across the four years, van de Beek only made 62 appearances, with two goals and two assists, spending half of two different seasons on loan with Everton and Eintracht Frankfurt.
However even the loan spells didn’t go well, with a combined 15 appearances across both clubs with only one goal.
Donny van de Beek finds his feet at Girona
Things are now starting to look up though for the midfielder at Girona, having grabbed a goal and an assist in nine games, including a Champions League goal against Feyenoord.
Unfortunately for van de Beek, when arrived in Spain, he suffered with a virus affecting his settling into the quad, however he’s now finding his feet.
Van de Beek is benefitting from the injury to Oriol Romeu, being given the chance to step in and cover his spot, taking the opportunity with both hands.
Now, Manchester Evening News have reported that United could be set for a windfall payment of up to £12.5 million if he continues to impress at Girona.
This isn’t the first time that Girona have taken on a former United star and turning them around, with Daley Blind moving to the LaLiga club in 2023 and helping them achieve their first ever Champions League qualification.
