Over the recent weeks, there’s been a lot of speculation around Greenwood’s future at United.

The 22-year-old has recently returned from a loan spell at Getafe hoping to restart his career again following his suspension by United.

The move to Getafe was certainly a successful one, with the winger making 36 appearances for the Spanish club across all competitions, making 16 goal contributions with ten goals and six assists. These impressive performances led him to winning Getafe’s Player of the Season award, helping the club achieve a twelfth place finish in La Liga and get to the Round of 16 in the Copa del Rey.

Upon his return to Manchester, Getafe posted on X what some believed was a cryptic hint to their desire to sign the winger with an image of the star captioned “See you SOON, blues”.

This posted added more to the ever growing story that Greenwood’s future no longer sat at United, with the star putting his £2 million Manchester home up for rent, valued at £14,000 per month.

With other teams like Borussia Dortmund also being linked to the 22-year-old’s signature, the stage is being set for Greenwood to move away from United this summer.

However, i are reporting that the Red Devils are considering the extension of his contract to go beyond next year to ensure that a permanent deal can be made for the player. United have the option to extend the youngster’s contract by a year, which could be used to send Greenwood on another loan with an obligation to buy at the end of it, if an acceptable price can be reached.

It’s understood by i that alongside Dortmund, Juventus, Napoli and Atletico Madrid are also keen to secure the winger’s services.

It’s expected that Greenwood is valued by United at around £40 million mark and despite INEOS being keen to sell on a number of big-name players this transfer window to raise money for transfers and to help reduce the wage bill for the club, sources claim the winger will not be sold at a “fire sale price”.

The main obstacle to Greenwood’s sale lies in the uncertainty of what reaction supporters would have to their club signing the young forward. Although the Crown Prosecution Service have dropped all charges and no conviction has occurred, it appears as though the Red Devil’s academy graduate’s charges of attempted rape, assault and coercive and controlling behaviour have affected the young player’s popularity.

As such, any interest from clubs could be kept away from public knowledge until a deal is close to completion, with some unknown English clubs also reported to be considering signing the winger.
