Manchester United’s weekend match-up with Brentford was certainly an eventful one, with United getting their first win in five games and Matthijs de Ligt sustaining a head injury.
The Red Devils hosted The Bees at Old Trafford, with the first half ending on a very controversial note with Brentford up 1-0.
The goal came from the head of Ethan Pinnock, scoring from a corner right on the brink of half-time.
Unfortunately for United, star defender Matthijs de Ligt was ordered off the pitch just before the goal was scored after he took a knee to the head early in the game, however wouldn’t stop bleeding.
The centre-back was told to go to the side-line to be bandaged, yet whilst he was off the pitch, play continued with Brentford capitalising on United being a man down.

Needless to say, the United coaches were fuming with Erik ten Hag and Ruud van Nistelrooy both being shown yellow cards for their reactions to the event.
Despite going into half-time raging and 1-0 down, United came back fighting in the second half and grabbed the win thanks to goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund.
However, this may not be the end of the repercussions for the coaches’ actions following Matthijs de Ligt being missing from the pitch, contributing to the first goal.
Darren Fletcher could be in trouble following Matthijs de Ligt injury rant
Not only were Erik ten Hag and Ruud van Nistelrooy enraged by the referee, Samuel Barrott’s decision to continue play whilst Matthijs de Ligt was being treated, but so was former United midfielder Darren Fletcher.
The Daily Mirror has reported that Fletcher could face FA charges following his half-time actions in response to the decision.
As the teams headed down the tunnel, footage showed Fletcher remonstrating with Gavin Ward, the fourth official, as the official walked down the tunnel with Barrott and his assistants in toe.
If this “expletive-laden tirade” is included in Barrott’s match report, then Fletcher could find himself in real trouble with the FA.
Whilst it’s unknown what was said by the former Scotland international, Fletcher now faces an anxious wait to see if any further actions will be taken.
