Manchester United mourn the death of iconic official Kath Phipps, who passed away this morning at the age of 85.
The legendary club receptionist after more than 55 years of service to the club.
Phipps worked in a variety of roles at Manchester United since joining the club in 1968 and stood witness to the best-ever period in the team’s history.
She started her career as a switchboard operator, a few months after The Red Devils’ first European triumph.
Kath later entered into her long-term position as the receptionist at the club’s training ground, developing friendships with United’s megastar footballers, managers, casual staff and visitors over the years.
An official statement from Manchester United announced her passing as they paid a heartfelt tribute to one of their own.
The League Managers Association’s Service to Football award was awarded to Kath, who received her accolade alongside managerial legend Sir Alex Ferguson and Michael Carrick in 2022.
With this award, she was the recipient of public tributes from David Beckham, Gary Neville and others, who were always aware of her positive presence when they began their workdays.
Former Man United captain Wayne Rooney paid tribute to Kath Phipps on Instagram stories which read: “The heart and soul of Manchester United. Everything what the club is about. A legend who will be greatly missed. Thanks for the memories Kathy. Thoughts with family and friends.”
Former United midfield legend Paul Scholes wrote: “The heart and soul of our special football club, will be sadly missed by all and impossible to replace. RIP.”
Everyone at CentreDevils is saddened by the news and our thoughts and prayers are with her family at this time.
