The winter transfer window has now come to a close, however that doesn’t mean the Manchester United recruitment team can rest up.
All attention will now be directed to the end of the season, with the summer transfer window being a key part of the footballing calendar.
The summer transfer market offers clubs the last chance to cash in on players who will otherwise be eligible for pre-contracts as free agents the following January, as well as having the pre-season for clubs to integrate new signings into their squad.
United’s focus for the summer is still expected to be in attack, with The Red Devils failing to sign a striker in January.
Their two aims for the January window were simple, sign a striker, and sign a left-wing-back.
Ultimately the club completed one of their aims in signing Patrick Dorgu from Lecce, however in failing to sign Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich or Christopher Nkunku from Chelsea, no striker has joined the club.
However, United are happy with the approach, being content with refusing to overpay for unproven strikers, thus limiting their summer budget even further.
Now, The Guardian has reported that United are bracing themself for a struggle in the summer.

Manchester United face a limited budget once more
Going into January it was announced that United’s recruitment team were not allocated any funds for transfers, having to rely on offloading players before making any signings.
Whilst no player, other than Ruben Curley, has moved on permanently this last month, the departures of Marcus Rashford and Antony on loan has freed up much needed capacity in the salary budget, allowing for the signing of Dorgu and Ayden Heaven.
However, with no sales having taken place, United are once more facing a struggle for funds when they head into the summer transfer window.
That said, there is scope for improving this situation.
Marcus Rashford’s loan move has included a £40 million option to buy, which if triggered would be pure profit for the United academy graduate as well as cutting his £325,000 per week salary short by three years, saving the club approximately £50 million across that time.
Also fellow loanee Jadon Sancho has a £25 million buy clause in his loan contract, with those funds set to come into play at the end of the season.
Alongside these contracts that are already lined up, Alejandro Garnacho could also be a key to generating further funds, given his £70 million price tag and significant interest from both Chelsea and Napoli.
However, it’s believed the sale of Garnacho would be a last resort, with Amorim and his staff keen to retain the young Argentine.
