Turkish outlet Fotomac report that Mohamed Elneny has been offered to Trabzonspor by agents, and head coach Abdullah Avci is interested in the move.
Avci worked with Elneny during the midfielder’s loan spell at Besiktas in 2019/20, as he was the head coach with the Super Lig club at the time.
The 59-year-old has been with Trabzonspor since then, but he’s seemingly keen to reunite with the player he gave 36 appearances during their season together.
Fotomac claim that Elneny is ready to say goodbye to England, and that he’s also been suggested to Galatasaray.
Avci plans to meet with the player, particularly given Elneny’s contract expires at the end of the current campaign.
But it’s probably best to take this news with a pinch of salt. For a start, Elneny’s deal has the option to extend to 2024, so he won’t be available on a free transfer unless Arsenal allow it.
Elneny has also shown a lot of loyalty to the Gunners over the years.
Even when he’s not playing as often, the Egypt international knows he has an important role in the squad, and he’s willing to make sacrifices for the good of the team.
So the fact he’s not currently a starter isn’t necessarily an indicator that he’s on the way out.
For the time being, Elneny is injured anyway, having picked up a knock recently. Initial reports don’t suggest the problem is anything serious, but it’s not yet clear exactly when he’ll be back.
