Manager Planning – Mamatwan Mine

ABOUT THE ROLE:

  • This role is a permanent full-time position.
  • As a manager mine planning, you will be responsible for managing the strategic and operational mine planning functions to ensure the optimal extraction of manganese ore in an open-cast mining environment. This role includes short-term, mid-term, and long-term planning, ensuring the alignment of operational goals with financial and production targets. This role oversees the mine planning, survey, geology &grade control, rock engineering and the laboratory sections.

Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:

  • Develop and implement long-term mine plans, incorporating production, financial, and resource objectives.
  • Ensure that the planning aligns with business goals, sustainable development, and legal regulations.
  • Provide input for Life of Operations (LoOP) & Medium-Term plans and reserve estimations.
  • Oversee the geology and surveying departments to ensure integration of accurate resource data.
  • Oversee the development of detailed short- and medium-term mine plans, including pit designs, haul road layouts, waste dump placements, and equipment allocation.
  • Plan for efficient ore extraction, waste management, and rehabilitation activities.
  • Adjust and optimize mine plans based on production performance and geological variations.
  • Implement best practices in mine design, scheduling, and operational efficiency.

ABOUT YOU:

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:

  • Minimum of 8–10 years of experience in mine planning, preferably in an open-cast manganese or similar mining environment;
  • Proven track record in developing short, medium, and long-term mine plans;
  • Proficiency in mine planning software (e.g., MicroStation, Deswik, MineSight, Datamine).
  • Experience in managing a team of technical specialists.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS ROLE ARE:

  •  Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Geology, or related field.
  •  A postgraduate qualification will be advantageous.
