It is expected to be a busy summer this in Manchester, with numerous departures and signings expected to kick off his new era under Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS.
The club is expected to bolster a couple of positions, including central defence and central midfield. The latter is on account of Casemiro’s ageing legs and the uncertainty around Christian Eriksen’s future at the club.
It is also expected that the club will potentially capitalize on Scott McTominay for some revenue to make better signings.
On matters midfield, United have most recently been linked to Sporting Lisbon’s Morten Hjulmand.
This is as reported by Portuguese publication Record who report United remain admirers of Hjlumand and are ‘paying close attention to his evolution’ this season, along with La Liga giants Barcelona.
United are merely renewing their interest in the Dane, as it was reported in the January transfer window that United were making inroads to sign him. CaughtOffside claimed that Manchester United had already begun negotiations to sign him.
There were even reports that The Red Devils had offered youngster Facundo Pellistri in exchange for the Denmark international.
Hjulmand joined Sporting from Serie A outfit Lecce last summer and has made an immediate impression in Lisbon, making 40 appearances in all competitions and boasting the third-most minutes in Ruben Amorim’s entire squad.
He has well cemented himself as one of the finest defensive midfielders in the league and has racked up three goals and two assists in 23 games, with the club sitting top of the Primeira Liga table.
The 24-year-old reportedly has a hefty release clause worth £69m, a fee which the Lisbon giants are keen to stick to.
Sporting are aware of the growing interest in Hjulmand and will look to fend off Europe’s elite by promising the Dane a position in their captaincy group next season, with the likes of Sebastian Coates, Luis Neto and Antonio Adan.
