A Federal High Court in Lagos on Tuesday sentenced 40-year-old Noah Oke to three years imprisonment for illegal possession of Cannabis sativa.
The sentence was delivered by Justice Lewis Allagoa, who also offered the convict an alternative option of a one million naira fine.
Oke was prosecuted by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, (NDLEA), with Mr. Aondofa Korinjo representing the agency.
Oke who was arraigned on a one-count charge of drug trafficking, pleaded guilty before the court.
Following his plea, the court reviewed the facts, with Korinjo who presented evidence, including exhibits, that were admitted by the court.
Based on the defendant’s plea and the evidence submitted, the judge found Oke guilty and sentenced him accordingly.
The offence, according to the charge, was committed on August 21 in the Seme area of Lagos State.
Oke was found in possession of one kilogram of Cannabis sativa, a restricted drug under Nigerian law, in contravention of Section 11(c) of the NDLEA Act of 2004.
