April 30, 2024 MANHATTAN, New York – A 25-year-old man wanted in a felony assault case was critically injured during a police shooting Tuesday afternoon in Chelsea, NYC, cops said.
According to officials, an individual wanted for allegedly assaulting a deli clerk back on April 7th of this year, was spotted by law enforcement and in an attempt to bring the suspect into custody, authorities gave chase.
The suspect evaded and allegedly pulled a gun on officers, just as he was trying to enter an optical store. That’s when the suspect was fired upon by NYPD officers and seriously injured, police say.
Shooting occurred near Maxim Eyes optical on West 24th street, between 7th and 8th Avenues in Manhattan. The injured suspect was taken to Bellevue Hospital with life threatening injuries.
Incident was reported around 2 p.m., by radio to NYPD central dispatch from an officer with the violent gangs task force.
A gun was recovered at the scene following the shooting and an additional 26-year-old male who was with the wounded suspect was taken to the NYPD 10th Precinct for further questioning.
The investigation into the shooting incident is ongoing.
