There’s been a lot of debate in terms of how strong the latest DLC character, Mai Shiranui, is in Street Fighter 6. She’s definitely seen a surge in results as of late, showing up twice in the top 16 of a major event.

Adding further fuel to the discussion, in Street Fighter 6’s latest official character usage stats, Mai showed up in the second spot for online ranked matches for players in the Platinum, Diamond and Master ranked categories.

In terms of ranked match win-loss records, these stats weren’t nearly as kind to Mai, placing her at 13th overall out of 25 characters, putting her in the middle of the pack.

However, there are a number of top end competitors who feel Mai is being heavily slept on, and the character has a tremendous amount of untapped ability that we haven’t seen yet at the highest levels of play consistently.

Generally, whenever pro players drop a top tier character who’s consistently placed high at events, they often have a good reason for doing so, and we’re seeing a number of pros giving Mai a shot in this window of time, and this is clearly transferring over to other portions of the player base.

It’s worth noting that Mai was even more popular the prior month, February 2025, which was when she was first made available as a playable character in Street Fighter 6.

Still, Mai is holding strong so far in the minds of players at the character select screen, and it’s going to be really interesting to see how much untapped potential she has as the game continues to evolve.

You can scope out the latest usage stats and character win-loss records on the official Street Fighter 6 website.

A recent bug was also discovered with Mai that’s exclusive to training mode and sees her generating a solar flare.
