M. Bison's very interesting gameplay changes in Street Fighter 6 showcased by Justin Wong and Rooflemonger

M. Bison, Terry Bogard, Mai Shiranui, and Elena were revealed for Street Fighter 6 Season 2 during the Summer Game Fest 2024 presentation. We apparently don’t have to wait too long to play the first character of the season as M. Bison will be releasing on June 26.

It seems that Justin Wong and Rooflemonger were both attending Summer Game Fest this year. While there, they were invited by Capcom to record a sneak peek at M. Bison’s gameplay in Street Fighter 6.

One thing that’s immediately interesting about M. Bison is that his Double Knee Press (the “Scissor Kick”) no longer requires charging the inputs. Instead, it’s performed with a quarter-circle forward motion and kick.

Of course, the blog update for M. Bison did hint at this ahead of time. More specifically, we were told that M. Bison will feel familiar to fans, but he’ll utilize a combination of charge and motion inputs for his specials.

M. Bison’s Backfist Combo, which is a special move and not actually a target combo, is the move in which the character is able to access his Psycho Mine mechanic. This works similarly to the Psycho Charge from Street Fighter 5, though M. Bison is no longer able to manually trigger a detonation from anywhere.

Instead, M. Bison has to connect with his Psycho Crusher, another Backfist Combo, or a Devils Reverse. The Psycho Mine will also just naturally detonate after an elapsed period of time.

According to Justin Wong, M. Bison isn’t quite as free flowing as Akuma when it comes to combo applications. It would appear that M. Bison’s gameplay emphasizes his amazing pressure and frame traps.

As an example, Justin Wong mentions that Psycho Crusher can basically be used as a “neutral skip” when the Psycho Mine is in play. Even if the opponent blocks the setup, M. Bison will be left at an advantageous position due to the detonation of the Psycho Mine.
