Street Fighter fans were in for quite a surprise yesterday during the Summer Game Fest presentation. Though it almost felt more like a trailer for Capcom vs. SNK 3, it turns out that the Year 2 Character Pass is made up of M. Bison, Terry Bogard, Mai Shiranui, and Elena.
This certainly provides some context about the Season 2 hints that Street Fighter 6 Director Takayuki Nakayama was teasing. “Huuh? What are you doing!?” turned out to be an appropriate prediction to how fans would react to the news.
Late last night, Capcom went ahead and released M. Bison’s gameplay trailer for Street Fighter 6. We now have a strong understanding as to how M. Bison will play in Street Fighter 6. Additionally, the trailer teased a few details about M. Bison’s role in the World Tour mode.
However, some extra context about how his moves work certainly would be nice. As such, Capcom unveiled details about how M. Bison functions in Street Fighter 6 with a Steam blog.
First off, it’s noted that longtime fans of M. Bison should feel comfortable with how the character plays in Street Fighter 6. Similar to Street Fighter 5, M. Bison utilizes both charged and motion inputs for his special moves.
The blog claims that the brush with death has altered how M. Bison approaches fighting in the sky. However, his Shadow Rise special appears to have identical characteristics to his Head Press and Devil Reverse.
What is actually new for M. Bison is his Backfist Combo. Upon hitting with this unique target combo, M. Bison will implant a Psycho Mine on his opponent.
The Psycho Mine mechanic functions similar to M. Bison’s Psycho Charge special from Street Fighter 5, exclusively accessed during his V-Trigger 2.
To manually detonate the Psycho Mine, M. Bison only needs to connect another Backfist Combo, Psycho Crusher, or Devil Reverse against the opponent. The resulting explosion will cause M. Bison to be safe on block. In certain situations, he’ll even be left at an advantage.
If M. Bison actually hits the opponent with a move that detonates a Psycho Mine, then he’ll gain additional damage as well as a juggle situation. It’s also worth noting that a Psycho Mine will naturally detonate after a set duration.
Though the Psycho Mine can be scary, the effect will be dispelled entirely if the opponent manages to hit M. Bison. It’s similar to A.K.I.’s poison in that regard.
M. Bison is slated to be released on June 26, 2024. Of course, he’ll also have an alternate costume that puts him back in his dictator uniform for those that are feeling nostalgic.
