The left-back made his first appearance of the season in Manchester United’s 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town, having missed the start of the campaign due to a calf injury.
Since then, he has managed only three substitute appearances as he worked his way back to fitness.
Unfortunately, a new muscular injury, unrelated to his previous calf issue, is now set to keep Shaw out of action for several weeks.
The defender shared his disappointment in an emotional statement posted on Instagram.
“It’s hurting a lot having to write this as I really thought I had got through my recent struggles and was on a positive path going forwards, but unfortunately I’ve had a small setback,” Shaw wrote.
“I’ve been through a lot and had a lot of ups and downs but this has definitely been my toughest period. I’m absolutely devastated and it’s extremely tough to come to terms with reality at this moment in time.”

Shaw acknowledged the frustration of fans and shared his determination to return stronger. “I understand there is gunna [sic] be people frustrated, angry, disappointed and I understand all that.
“There is no one feeling that more than me at this moment in time. But what I can promise is I will do everything I can to come back better soon to help this club achieve its ambitions this season.
“Thank you to everyone for the support. It really doesn’t go unnoticed and I really do appreciate it.”
Shaw, who joined Manchester United from Southampton in 2014 for £27 million, has been plagued by injuries in recent seasons.
Last season, he recovered from a three-month layoff with a calf injury to feature for England at Euro 2024, having missed significant time during the 2022-23 campaign due to a hamstring issue.
The defender returned to action as a substitute in United’s draw against Ipswich and featured again in the 4-0 victory over Everton at Old Trafford.
However, his latest setback represents another hurdle in what has been a challenging period for the 28-year-old.
Shaw’s absence adds to Manchester United’s ongoing injury concerns, as the team continues to navigate a demanding season.
Fans and teammates alike will hope for a swift and successful recovery for the England international.
