As we move into the second set of games of this year’s Euros in Germany, England are currently sat top of Group C as the only team in the group to win a game.
Their 1-0 win over Serbia came thanks to the very capable head of Jude Bellingham from a Bukayo Saka cross. With a clean sheet to their name thanks to a strong but albeit fleeting performance from Jordan Pickford with little to test the keeper from the Serbian attack, England go into the next game against Denmark with morale on their side.
Denmark currently sit in second place in Group C after a 1-1 draw with Slovenia, with United’s Christian Eriksen returning to the pitch following his cardiac arrest in the opening game of Euro 2020 against Finland. The momentous occasion for the Dane was made even more beautiful with the midfielder converting a beautiful attack into a goal with a half-volley to send the Danish team ahead, marking is return to the international competitions.
With all eyes of the two squads on their match on 20th June, the England team got back to training on Wednesday morning, however United’s Luke Shaw was absent from this.
This would suggest that the left-back will be missing the next game, apparently not fully recovered from his injuries that have ruled him out of the season for the Red Devils.
Gareth Southgate’s inclusion of the 28-year-old in his Euro’s line-up came as a surprise considering the extent of the season that Shaw has been side-lined.
If England come out of this game on top, they’ll be sat comfortably at the top of the group with six points and will secure a slot in the knockout stages, with only Slovenia or Serbia able to catch them on points if they win both of their upcoming games. If the Slovenia vs Serbia game ends as a draw, no team in the group will be able to match the six points, sealing a first place finish in the group.
