Luis Diaz will be ‘as good as Sadio Mane’, talkSPORT told, as Liverpool are hailed for ‘brilliant business’ after excellent performance against Benfica in Champions League

Luis Diaz is setting things alight at Liverpool and Jason Cundy can see him becoming as good as Sadio Mane for the club.

The Colombian winger was sensational in the Reds’ Champions League win against Benfica, scoring one and making one in the 3-1 triumph at the Estadio da Luz.

Diaz has been sensational since joining from Porto in the January transfer window

The former Porto man effortlessly slotted in his late goal to put Liverpool in control of the tie, and against his old rival Benfica, showing exactly why the Reds forked out £45million to bring him in.

The goal and assist in Portugal also helped his team set another record, as Jurgen Klopp’s side have now won their eighth consecutive game away from home, the first time in their history.

Aged at 25-years-old, the sky is the limit for Diaz, who looks like he has been at Anfield for years.

He was quick, skilful, effective and looked threatening every time he had the ball.

Given that the Colombian has only been at Liverpool for a few months, it’s remarkable how well he’s settled.

And because of that, he is deservedly earning praise, with Jason Cundy comparing him to one of Liverpool’s modern-day greats.

The 29-year-old has been one of the best players in Liverpool’s recent history, scoring over 100 Premier League goals, and helping the Reds win the title, the Champions League and Carabao Cup.

Speaking on The Sports Bar, the former Chelsea defender said: “Diaz is on a different level, he is going to be as good as Mane has been for Liverpool.

“I don’t want to put him on the same plane as Salah, that’s unfair.

“But from what I’ve seen so far… that’s brilliant business.

“Liverpool over the years [have made some brilliant signings], credit, they’ve got a brilliant manager, but your transfer targets and your recruitment is absolutely crucial, and Liverpool are getting a huge amount of it right.

“You get the odd one that doesn’t work, every team does, but largely right now Liverpool’s recruitment has been pretty spot on.”
