Lucas Torreira scores & assists as transfer speculation grows
Lucas Torreira has been growing in popularity with each passing week in Italy, but he was yet to get off the mark in terms of goals and assists until this weekend.
With his loan side down 2-0 at half-time, there was no better time to start than against Sassuolo on Sunday.
In the 51st minute, Torreira won the ball in midfield and quickly played it through to the in-form Dusan Vlahovic. The Fiorentina striker made no mistake, smashing home the chance to make it 2-1.
Less than 10 minutes later, Torreira had the equaliser.
It began with another Torreira intervention in midfield, intercepting a throw by the goalkeeper. Fiorentina quickly got men forwards, with Giacomo Bonaventura taking a shot before Vlahovic tried one on the rebound.
Vlahovic’s effort was blocked in the six-yard box by a defender, but it fell to Torreira to poke home.
Sadly, any hopes of completing a full turnaround were dashed when Fiorentina’s Cristiano Biraghi was sent off seven minutes later.

Torreira’s side had to drop off a bit after that, and they settled for a 2-2 draw, their first draw of the season.
Still, it’s a point gained given the poor first half, and it’s another reason why Fiorentina will be keen to bring Torreira in permanently this summer.
