Characters in fighting games are best defined by the normals and specials that they have access to. By the nature of fighting games, some moves are simply better than others.
BC|LordKnight recently released an interesting video that had him constructing a unique type of tier list. Rather than ranking the characters of a particular fighting game, LordKnight instead ranked the types of special moves that we typically see throughout all games within the genre.
Each special move is represented by a character performing an attack that falls within that special move’s category. The type of moves that LordKnight ranks are Rekkas, teleports, traditional fireballs, invincible reversals, command grabs, stance changing, and more.
Moves included in the S tier position, the tier list’s uppermost category, are teleports, dive kicks, air fireballs, lunging attacks (lariats), and more. LordKnight mentioned that he originally had even more moves positioned in the S tier group, but he had to actually think about which types of specials were better than others for the purpose of trimming it down some.
The worst type of specials on this tier list have all been ranked in the B tier group. This tier category is made up of the resource management specials and slow attacks that are advantage on block. It’s worth noting that LordKnight originally had command grabs positioned here as well, but eventually moved that type of special into the A tier category as the video progressed.
