Super Eagles star, Ademola Lookman continued his impressive form for Atalanta with a goal against Stuggart in the Champions League.
Lookman opened the scoring in the 51st minute, tapping in from substitute Charles De Ketelaere’s cut-back.
Nico Zaniolo added the second goal to seal a 2-0 win for Atalanta in Germany to boost their chances of qualifying for the next round.
Lookman has enjoyed a good run of form in the last few games for Atalanta with 13 goals involvement in his last 13 games in all competitions.
He scored a brace against Napoli in the Serie A on Sunday to end their unbeaten start to the season.
The 27-year-old revealed that Atalanta deserved the maximum points against Stuttgart in Germany.
Lookman said, “We had a positive first half. We created dangerous moments in the game, so (the aim was to) just keep doing what we were doing.
“We knew the chances would come and we took them. We’re happy with the three points and we’ll keep going.
“We knew how important this game would be. Coming here is never easy – I think we all saw the atmosphere and how loud it was. It was great for us to experience it and play here, and wonderful for us to put on the performance that we did in this stadium.”
The Italian side are now unbeaten in their last nine matches in all competitions, winning seven and drawing two.
Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini was impressed with Ademola Lookman, and his teammates performance in the encounter.
He said: “We came here with ambition but there is a long way to go before we win. These are difficult pitches, Stuttgart had won in Turin against Juventus. It is the way this win comes about that gives us confidence.
“We won with personality, perhaps we suffered in the final and there was a lack of order. I saw many good things. For us, these games are a reason for growth. Last year’s experience has given us much more awareness.
“This win makes us feel pretty good for the Champions League standings. I don’t know how it will end but there are a lot of teams within a few points. Winning is a step forward. The championship is another competition and we are in high spirits for the match against Udinese.”
The victory moved Atalanta to the eighth position on the Champions League table with eight points after picking up two wins, and two draws in four games.
Stuttgart, on the other hand, are rooted in the 27th position with four points from four games after two defeats, one draw and one win.
Atalanta will be back in action against Udinese in the Serie A on Sunday, while Stuggart takes on Frankfurt in the Bundesliga on the same day.
Lookman was included in the Super Eagles squad to play Benin Republic, and Rwanda in the Nations Cup qualifiers on Wednesday.
Nigerians will be hoping he can continue his impressive form in the encounters after scoring eight goals and recording five assists in 13 games for Atalanta in all competitions.
He has scored six goals for Nigeria in 2024 after playing a pivotal role to lead the Super Eagles to the Nations Cup final in February.
Lookman scored a brace for Nigeria in the 3-0 win over Benin Republic in the first leg in September.
