With my review of Mortal Kombat 1, I described Invasion mode as being very grindy and tedious. Since that first season of Invasion, I actually haven’t touched the mode, but it’s easy enough to tell that NetherRealm Studios has been working towards addressing some of the problems associated with the mode.
A clip posted by A Bag in a Salt’s World about one of the battles in Invasion recently caught my attention. During the battle against “Peace Destroyer” (Liu Kang), the opponent will apparently throw out the equivalent of Dragon Ball Z’s Kamehameha Wave.
During the fight, the Peace Destroyer will assume the all too familiar stance. The attack takes a long while before its ready, but he appears to have armor properties during the charge up to protect himself.
After enough time has elapsed, a combination of red and blue flames will jettison out of Liu Kang’s hands in the form of a beam. Most players will probably have some difficulties evading this technique on the first go.
However, it should be noted that Liu Kang is actually adopting the same posture as Street Fighter’s Hadoken in this clip rather than than Dragon Ball Z’s Kamehameha Wave. As outlined by a fan last month, the proper way to perform the Kamehameha Wave is to have the arm opposite to the leg that’s stepping forward be on top when unleashing the beam.
Aside from that minor detail, this certainly gives us the impression that NetherRealm Studios may have a few fans of the Dragon Ball series on staff. Check it out below:
This definitely needs to be a new move for Lui Kang in MK1 pic.twitter.com/eeIS1xonsv
