The President of Akin Lions Club, District 404A2 Nigeria, Lion Emana Otu has reaffirmed the Association’s deep vision to continue to provide support services as well as partner government in serving communities and impacting lives through humanitarian service projects and grants.
Lion Emana made the comments during the handing over of the renovated lying-in-ward Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC), at Ediba Qua, Calabar, the State Capital. She emphasized that donations from its members helps Lions around the world provide greater service to those who need it the most adding that without the generous donations from its worldwide donors, the Lions foundation would be unable to provide the incredible levels of support that are empowering the service of Lions everywhere.
The Calabar Akins Lions President further stated that the renovation of the healthcare Centre was chosen as key project under her administration due to the importance of good health to all.
‘Today marks yet another milestone in the annuals of our club as we serve to leave indelible footprints to the future.
Let me thanked the founder of Lions Club International, Melvin Jones for his selfless thought and sacrifices that gave birth to this world’s largest umbrella of volunteers’, said Lion Emana.
‘I therefore handover the renovated facility to our District Governor, for onward handing over to the Government of Cross River State’, she concluded.
In his handing over of the renovated health facility to the State Commissioner for Health on behalf of the State Government, the District Governor, Lion Elder Nsikan Bassey MJF, NLCF, said 100% of donations made to Lions Club are used to support grant programmes, allowing Lions to help the world on a larger scale and do more than they could on their own.
He expressed joy that through the Lions Foundation, the sights of some young girls from Nigeria including one who had been blind for 13 years were restored at the Lions International Hospital Kenya, adding that Lions Club is currently building the largest hospital in West Africa in the city of Abuja, Nigeria to reduce the cost of providing such services to people who need them.
In her response, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Betta Edu, who received the health facility on behalf of Government, thanked Lions Club for their endless humanitarian services.
