The five time Ballon D' Or winner Lionel Messi has taken to instagram posing with his Dog whom his girlfriend Antonella Roccuzzo gave him as a gift at the start of this year. Lionel Messi and Roccuzzo have both been together for eight years with two children.

It's amazing how his pet has grown massively in size just within eight months. Lionel Messi's  “Dogue de Bodeaux” gargantuan pet is a French Mastiff, a breed of dog known for its size and power.

Such is their inherent strength they were formerly employed to transport heavy objects, while their imposing appearance has also seen them deployed as guard dogs.

Notoriously difficult to train, Dogues de Bordeauxs quickly become completely attached to their owners.

The Argentine captain made a remarkable return to action for his country and scored the only goal which gave Argentina the victory against Uruguay in World's cup qualifier.

He then sustained a groin injury, which has kept him out of action for the second game against Venezuela and was made to return to Barcelona. Argentina drew the match with scoreline of 2-2 at Merida.

Messi face a race against time to be fit for the club's forthcoming game vs Alaves.
