There is emerging allegation that a chairmanship aspirant for one of the local government areas in Cross River Northern Senatorial District in last year’s botched local government elections in the state, who was aspiring under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, has scammed and mocked Nigerians with a quiz competition he organized on his Facebook page, with a pledge to reward winners with cash prizes in the spirit of Christmas.
The self-acclaimed philanthropist who is alleged to be a staunch follower of the Senator respresenting Cross River State Northern Senatorial District and also a vocal supporter of governor Ben Ayade, was said to have reneged on his pledge to reward winners of his quiz competition after some of the winners pleaded passionately for him to redeem his promises, especially that his actions may likely tarnished his public image.
Some of the winners who contacted NEGROIDHAVEN on condition of anonymity, reported that the quiz organizer slammed them each time they reached out to him for their prizes. They said he even boasted that it was not the winners’ right and that it was a mere privilege which he was at liberty to withdraw.
On our investigation into the allegation, NEGROIDHAVEN visited the Facebook timeline of the chairmanship aspirant who claims to be based in the United States. On his wall, he made a post dated 3rd November, 2018 and it reads: “Christmas is fast approaching, many may not have enough cash to shop, I believe that any little cash can help. I have set up “SUNNY OMAGU QUIZ”, answer to win on my Facebook page, every Sunday @2pm Nigeria time beginning tomorrow.”
On the day the quiz commenced, that’s on the 4th of November, 2018, he posted again on his Facebook wall: “THIS IS A QUIZ THAT IS SOLELY ASKED BY SUNNY OMAGU WITHOUT ANY EXTERNAL INFLUENCE. I PROMISE MY GOD THAT NOBODY CAN KNOW THROUGH ME WHAT CAN BE THE ANSWER BEFORE IT IS MADE PUBLIC. The first to give the right answer will win…”
Efforts to reach Mr Sunny Omagu for his reaction at the time of filing this report proved abortive as his phone line was switched off.
Investigations on the social media timeline of Omagu shows he was in Nigeria during the yuletide. He had a swell time during the festive season at the Christmas Village in Calabar, Cross River capital city. We are hoping that Omagu will make do his promise to fulfil his pledge.
