With Leicester City having clinched the Premier League title, Goal’s Tom Maston charts just how Claudio Ranieri’s men pulled off the greatest feat the sporting world has ever seen by going back over each and every game on their road to immortality.
1. LEICESTER CITY 4-2 SUNDERLAND (Vardy, Mahrez (2), Albrighton) :
Claudio Ranieri’s reign got under way in spectacular fashion as the Foxes went 3-0 up inside 25 minutes before Marc Albrighton secured the three points.
2. WEST HAM 1-2 LEICESTER CITY (Okazaki, Mahrez):
Slaven Bilic’s side had won their first game of the season at the Emirates Stadium but first-half strikes from Shinji Okazaki and Riyad Mahrez made it two wins from two for Ranieri’s men.
3. LEICESTER CITY 1-1 TOTTENHAM (Mahrez):
Dele Alli’s first Spurs goal put the visitors in front nine minutes from time, only for Mahrez to net the equaliser seconds later to ensure the spoils were shared.
4. BOURNEMOUTH 1-1 LEICESTER CITY (Vardy):
After Callum Wilson had opened the scoring at the Vitality Stadium, Jamie Vardy netted from the penalty spot four minutes before full-time to secure his side a point.
5. LEICESTER CITY 3-2 ASTON VILLA (De Laet, Vardy, Dyer):
Goals either side of half-time from Jack Grealish and Carles Gil looked to have ensured an away win for Tim Sherwood’s side, only for the Foxes to score three times in 17 minutes to steal victory.
6. STOKE CITY 2-2 LEICESTER CITY (Mahrez, Vardy):
Bojan and Jon Walters put the Potters 2-0 up inside 20 minutes but second-half strikes from Mahrez and Vardy kept Ranieri’s unbeaten run going.
7. LEICESTER CITY 2-5 ARSENAL (Vardy (2)):
Vardy opened and closed the scoring at the King Power Stadium but goals from Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud, and an Alexis Sanchez hat-trick, saw the hosts succumb to their first defeat of the campaign.
8. NORWICH CITY 1-2 LEICESTER CITY (Vardy, Schlupp):
The Foxes got back to winning ways as goals from Vardy and Jeffrey Schlupp proved enough for all three points at Carrow Road – despite Dieumerci Mbokani pulling one back in the second half.
9. SOUTHAMPTON 2-2 LEICESTER CITY (Vardy (2)):
Jose Fonte and Virgil van Dijk put Ronald Koeman’s side 2-0 up on the south coast but Vardy again came to rescue for Leicester as he netted twice in the second half to earn a precious point for the visitors.
10. LEICESTER CITY 1-0 CRYSTAL PALACE (Vardy):
After promises of pizza and hot dogs from Ranieri, the Foxes finally kept their first clean sheet of the campaign, with Vardy again grabbing the winner.
11. WEST BROM 2-3 LEICESTER CITY (Mahrez (2), Vardy):
After again falling behind, this time to a first-half strike from Salomon Rondon, Mahrez struck twice after the interval before Vardy netted for the seventh straight Premier League match.
12. LEICESTER CITY 2-1 WATFORD (Kante, Vardy (pen)):
A goalkeeping error from Heurelho Gomes gifted N’Golo Kante his first Leicester goal before Vardy secured a third straight win from the penalty spot.
13. NEWCASTLE UNITED 0-3 LEICESTER CITY (Vardy, Ulloa, Okazaki):
Vardy equalled Ruud van Nistelrooy’s Premier League record of scoring in 10 straight matches with the opener before fellow forwards Leonardo Ulloa and Okazaki put some added gloss on the scoreline.
14. LEICESTER CITY 1-1 MANCHESTER UNITED (Vardy):
England international Vardy broke the record for scoring in successive Premier League matches but Bastian Schweinsteiger’s header spoiled the party.
15. SWANSEA CITY 0-3 LEICESTER CITY (Mahrez (3)):
Vardy finally failed to score but that did not stop the Foxes, as Mahrez stepped up to the plate to score his first career hat-trick.
16. LEICESTER CITY 2-1 CHELSEA (Vardy, Mahrez):
Jose Mourinho’s reign as Chelsea boss came to an end at the King Power Stadium as Mahrez’s stunning strike ensured all three points for the Premier League leaders.
17. EVERTON 2-3 LEICESTER CITY (Mahre (2), Okazaki):
Mahrez took his personal tally to six goals in three matches with two penalties at Goodison Park before Okazaki netted the third and decisive strike.
18. LIVERPOOL 1-0 LEICESTER CITY:
Christian Benteke came off the bench to fire home the winner in front of the Kop as the Foxes fell to their first away league defeat of the season. The first game Leicester failed to score a goal in a top flight.
19. LEICESTER CITY 0-0 MANCHESTER CITY:
Ranieri set his side up in a far more defensive fashion and they frustrated the Etihad Stadium outfit in a game of few clear-cut chances.
20. LEICESTER CITY 0-0 BOURNEMOUTH:
Mahrez missed from the penalty spot in the second half as the hosts failed to score for a third straight match over the Christmas period. The Foxes now went into two successive goalless draw same as they kept their clean sheets.
21. TOTTENHAM 0-1 LEICESTER CITY (Huth):
Just as the visitors looked to be heading for a third straight goalless draw, Robert Huth popped up with a superb header to see off Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
22. ASTON VILLA 1-1 LEICESTER CITY (Okazaki):
Japan international Okazaki opened the scoring against the Premier League’s bottom club but a missed Mahrez penalty and a Rudy Gestede equaliser denied them all three points.
23. LEICESTER CITY 3-0 STOKE CITY (Drinkwater, Vardy, Ulloa):
Danny Drinkwater’s first Premier League goal of the season got the ball rolling against Mark Hughes’s side before Vardy and Ulloa secured a comfortable win.
24. LEICESTER CITY 2-0 LIVERPOOL (Vardy (2)):
After being frustrated for an hour by Jurgen Klopp’s side, Vardy’s brilliant volley from 25 yards sent the King Power Stadium into raptures before the striker added a second late on to seal the win.
25. MANCHESTER CITY 1-3 LEICESTER CITY (Huth (2), Mahrez):
Many pundits pointed to the clash at the Etihad Stadium as the biggest test of Leicester’s season to date but two Huth strikes and a brilliant Mahrez strike saw them become favourites for the title for the first time.
26. ARSENAL 2-1 LEICESTER CITY (Vardy (pen)):
The Foxes bossed the first half at the Emirates Stadium, with Vardy’s penalty just reward for their dominance. However, Danny Simpson’s red card early in the second half cost them dearly, as Theo Walcott and Danny Welbeck turned the match on its head. The first game Leicester City conceded a red card in the campaign.
27. LEICESTER CITY 1-0 NORWICH CITY (Ulloa):
After a two-week break following the Arsenal defeat, it looked set to be a frustrating afternoon for the Foxes until substitute Ulloa popped up in stoppage time to spark wild scenes inside the King Power Stadium.
28. LEICESTER CITY 2-2 WEST BROM (Olsson OG, King)
Ranieri’s side put in an improved display against the Baggies but Craig Gardner’s superb free-kick and a host of missed chances saw them drop points.
29. WATFORD 0-1 LEICESTER CITY (Mahrez):
Algeria international Mahrez put in a match-winning performance at Vicarage Road as he curled home the winner midway through the second half.
30. LEICESTER CITY 1-0 NEWCASTLE UNITED (Okazaki):
All eyes were on Rafa Benitez as he took charge of Newcastle for the first time but Okazaki stole the show with a spectacular overhead kick that sealed a third win in four matches for the Foxes.
31. CRYSTAL PALACE 0-1 LEICESTER CITY (Mahrez):
Another week, another 1-0 win as, for the second straight away game, Mahrez scored the winner to keep Leicester on track for the title.
32. LEICESTER CITY 1-0 SOUTHAMPTON (Morgan):
Tears were shed inside the King Power Stadium as captain Wes Morgan headed home Christian Fuchs’s cross before marshalling the defence to a fourth clean sheet in their last five outings.
33. SUNDERLAND 0-2 LEICESTER CITY (Vardy (2)):
After going five games without a goal, Vardy found his scoring touch again to settle a turgid affair at the Stadium of Light with two second-half strikes.
34. LEICESTER CITY 2-2 WEST HAM Vardy, Ulloa (pen)):
Vardy went from hero to zero as he saw red after opening the scoring, and quickfire goals from Andy Carroll and Aaron Cresswell looked to have secured a win for the visitors. However, deep into injury time, Schlupp won a debatable penalty and Ulloa held his nerve to level matters.
35. LEICESTER CITY 4-0 SWANSEA CITY (Mahrez, Ulloa (2), Albrighton):
With Tottenham starting to crank up the pressure and Vardy suspended, the Foxes responded in thrilling fashion as Francesco Guidolin’s side were torn to shreds by the champions-elect.
36. MANCHESTER UNITED 1-1 LEICESTER CITY (Morgan):
After Spurs drew at home to West Brom, Leicester knew they would be champions if they beat the Red Devils at Old Trafford. They could only manage a draw but took another step towards the title.
37. CHELSEA 2-2 TOTTENHAM (Cahill, Hazard):
Needing a win to stay in the title race, Tottenham threw away a two-goal lead at Stamford Bridge, with Eden Hazard grabbing the equalising goal to hand the Premier League over to Leicester.
