Top competitive fighting game players can’t really control what people say about them online, but it’s way more interesting to see what is being searched about them.

Longtime professional Super Smash Bros. player William “TSM|Leffen” Hjelte sat down with the TSM FTX channel to answer the internet’s most Googled questions behind his life, career and origins — plus of course the Deep Leffen Bot.

Many players around now (myself included) probably don’t actually know where his tag came from, but apparently he bought a World or Warcraft account from someone else that had Leffen as the username, which he began signing up to events under, and it just kinda stuck at a certain point.

Although he’s been active in the Smash competitive scene for over 12 years now, the God Slayer says he has no plans of quitting Melee anytime soon in response to a question about his retirement.

Leffen does say, however, that he is essentially retired from Dragon Ball FighterZ and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in part because of the games’ subpar netplay and the pandemic.

The Deep Leffen Bot is a Twitter account that’s been active for a few years at this point posting humorous tweets that sound like they could be real trash talk from the player, but what does the man himself think about the account?

Leffen says that he did think the Deep Leffen Bot was pretty funny for a while, but the joke’s apparently gotten pretty old to him now.

Although many may assume the Deep Leffen Bot is a pure AI pulling from his past posts, the account also pulls from the Smash Bros. Subreddit too and the generated text is then made into understandable tweets from the competitor’s understanding.
