Lagos task force intercepts truckload of banned styrofoam packs

The Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) on Friday intercepted a truckload of styrofoam packs in the Ojuelegba area of the state.

The state government in January banned the use and distribution of styrofoam and other single-use plastics across the state for posing a threat to the environment.

Styrofoam is a raw material used to manufacture disposable plates used in eateries.

The Public Relations Officer for LAGESC, Mr. Ajayi Lukman, confirmed this in a statement in Ikeja.

He said the Mercedes-Benz 814 truck with Reg. No. AJK 140 LG, loaded with styrofoam valued at about ₦2 million belonged to a Cameroonian.

He added that the owner claimed the truck was carrying the goods through Akwa-Ibom for sales in the Central African country.
