The Lagos State Government has increased boarding fees in all public boarding schools in the state to N100,000 per term.
The new fee is an upward review from the previous N35,000 payable in all public boarding schools in the state.
A circular issued by the Director, Basic Education Services, Lagos State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Olufemi Asaolu, directed all boarding school principals to take note of the new fee.
The circular read: “I have the directive of the Honourable Commissioner to inform all public boarding house schools in Lagos State that the state government has approved the review of the boarding fee payable in all public boarding house schools in Lagos state.
“The new approved fee is One Hundred Thousand Naira (100,000) only. I am further directed to inform you that no additional fees of any form should be collected by the schools.”
Titled, ‘Review of boarding fees in all public secondary schools in Lagos State for 2024/2025 session,’ the circular added that resumption date remains 15 September 15, 2024.
The upward review of boarding fees, which represents about 300 per cent increment, comes amid rising inflation, as Nigerians struggle to cope with economic downturn.
