CALABAR – A lawmaker in Cross River State, Rt. Hon. Davies Etta has called on the government of Cross River State to borrow a leave from Engr. Ben Akak, a businessmen, politician cum philanthropist who recently celebrated his staff across all his business concerns to commemorate the international Labour Day 2023.
Etta disclosed this yesterday while addressing newsmen shortly after a workers day celebration set up by the Engr. Akak to reward commited and faithful staff or his business conglomerate. The lawmaker informed that he was surprised by the type of awards the company gave it's deserving staff as such is rarely done by entrepreneurs.
He therefore called on the government of Cross River State to look into workers welfare with the aim of ensuring that workers have conducive work environment and their take home is equivalent to their job and befits the realities of the day. He said as a lawmaker he will begin to put up a legislative framework that will enable government provide a better welfare package for workers and also celebrate deserving and committed workers across all sectors through incentives and awards during may day .
"I believe if we can imbibe the Ben Akak spirit into the Labour force of Cross River State we will be more productive, if we can celebrate our workers and appreciate them and give those who are outstanding some form of awards incentives it will spur others to work harder and the state will be more productive
As a lawmaker we will begin to think in the direction of putting up laws that will encourage or provide the legislative framework for the state to have the budgetary provision for the state to provide insensitive to those who have distinguished themselves in their services to the state." He said.
He used the opportunity to advise and encouraged both the awardees and other staff of the company to be steadfast as tomorrow is pregnant.
