Kwara State Police Command has pledged to apprehend those responsible for the murder of retired controller of works Abdulrazaq Ajani in Ilorin.
Ajani was murdered on Wednesday at around 3 p.m., shortly after he returned with his family from Offa, their hometown, where they had gone to celebrate the New Year.
The deceased was reportedly traced to his home at Dele Gege Street, Aderoju, Tanke area of Ilorin, where he was allegedly murdered by four young people.
The spokesperson for the command, DSP Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, gave the assurance in Ilorin on Friday while providing an update on the incident.
Ejire-Adeyemi said investigations are underway to apprehend those responsible.
“The Kwara Police Command assures the family that those involved in this dastardly act will be made to face the full wrath of the law.
“No arrest has been made as of this moment, but our police detectives are working assiduously to unravel this tragic incident.
“Kwara Police Command commiserates with the entire family of the Ajanis’; we pray that God Almighty consoles and comforts members of the family he left behind.
“We pray for the repose of the soul of their beloved father.
“Further updates will be communicated as investigations progress,” she said.
In a related development, Osun police has arrested Wale Ogunsanmi who had allegedly stabbed the leader of Rapture Empowerment International Church in Osogbo, Bishop Shina Olaribigbe, to death.
It was reported that Ogunsanmi, 35, stabbed the 52-year-old cleric on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, when he met him with his estranged wife at her residence.
In a statement released on Friday in Osogbo, the Osun State Police Command’s spokesperson, confirmed the arrest, stating that the police from Dugbe Division arrived at the scene, detained the suspects, and retrieved the exhibit.
The Statement partly read; “Osun State Police Command has arrested a 43-year-old man, Wale Ogunsanmi, in connection with the murder of his church pastor, Shina Olaribigbe, 52.
“The incident occurred on January 1, 2025, at about 11:25 pm Ogunsanmi, who had been living separately from his wife for about a year, allegedly broke into her residence, where he found her with the pastor. He then stabbed the pastor to death with a knife.
“Police officers from the Dugbe Division responded promptly to the scene, arrested the suspect, and recovered the exhibit. The corpse has been deposited at the UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital Mortuary for autopsy.”
Opalola said an investigation into the incident was ongoing and the command was committed to serving justice.
