Noob Saibot, Sektor, Cyrax, Ghostface, the T-1000, and Conan the Barbarian are all coming to Mortal Kombat 1 via the Kombat Pack 2. The first three characters will all be released at the same time as the Khaos Reigns story expansion on September 24, 2024.
Recently at San Diego Comic Con, Ed Boon commented about NetherRealm Studios’ plans to release years of content for Mortal Kombat 1, and that this is year 2 of their plans, suggesting that there will still be more to come later on. Over on FutureBoyWho’s video (via Comic Book), it would appear that the developers may have already begun some work for Kombat Pack 3.
As it turns out, there have recently been updates to Cassie Cage’s model for Mortal Kombat 1. According to FutureBoyWho, Cassie Cage now has a more high resolution look compared to her appearance at the end of Mortal Kombat 1’s main story.
Additionally, it would appear that Cassie’s hairstyle has been changed so that it looks more like how it does in Mortal Kombat X. When she appeared during a cutscene at the end of Mortal Kombat 1, she looked most similar to how she did in Mortal Kombat 11.
Overall, Takeda, Cassie, and Kung Jin all received a number of changes since Mortal Kombat X and Mortal Kombat 11. However, it should be noted that Jacqui Briggs is the most unchanged since Mortal Kombat 11, which really seems to hurt her chances as a DLC fighter.
We’ve previously heard mentions of Noob Saibot, Cyrax, Ghostface, the T-1000, and Conan the Barbarian from data miners. Of course, we also heard mentions of Cassie Cage, Kung Jin, and some “unknown girl,” who potentially could’ve been Cyrax or Sektor looking back.
Of the “Kombat Kids,” Takeda Takahashi is the only one that’s currently playable in Mortal Kombat 1. He was the last character released for the first Kombat Pack.
This suggests that the Kombat Kids, specifically Cassie Cage and Kung Jin, could be on the table for Kombat Pack 3. As mentioned before, it feels like Jacqui Briggs is the least likely of the bunch to appear later on as DLC.
Similar to Takeda, the origin story for Cassie Cage will likely need to be changed to fit into Liu Kang’s new timeline. Rather than being Kenshi’s son, Takeda is instead a cousin. Needless to say, this is similar to Kung Lao and Kung Jin’s connection in Mortal Kombat X.
More than likely, Cassie Cage will go from being Johnny Cage’s daughter, to his cousin. This is certainly an odd change, but it does feel necessary considering how different things are in Mortal Kombat 1 compared to Mortal Kombat 11.
Regardless, there are a number of signs pointing towards Cassie Cage joining the roster at a future point. We’ll just have to see if things really play out that way in the long run.
