Kombat League issues in Mortal Kombat 1 confirmed by Ed Boon, investigation for solution underway

Quan Chi launched last week for Kombat Pack owners as the second DLC character for Mortal Kombat 1, but that’s not all he brought.

If you’ve been having issues with Kombat League (or perhaps online in general) since the sorcerer of death joined the game, you’re very much not alone.

NetherRealm Studios Creative Director and MK Co-creator Ed Boon took to X (formerly Twitter) today to confirm there are indeed problems that are being looked into.

“PSA: We are aware of (as well as examining) the desync issue with MK1 Kombat league,” wrote Boon in his post. “We will update you on this matter shortly.”

For days now, players have been sharing their frustrations online about losing out on league points fairly often from the matches desyncing or the other player leaving / getting disconnected early because of them.

There are some saying they’ve been having these problems since launch, but it seems things have gotten worse over the past week.

That’s obviously not great when users only have a limited amount of time to level up and get the gear they want out of the season, but hopefully this means it won’t be an issue for much longer.

Boon didn’t provide an ETA though we can probably presume the developers are working hard to get this figured out by the end of the week before the influx of players hits the game with the Christmas holiday weekend rapidly approaching.

They did at least finally add in the Wi-Fi indicator with Quan Chi, so players can decline matches if they feel the connection will be insufficient — but that doesn’t help much at the moment if they’re desyncing anyway.

It is interesting though that this is said to be mostly limited to Kombat League, so perhaps it’d be best to stay in causal and private matches for the time being.

Mortal Kombat 1 is also set to receive another upgrade to its online capabilities with Krossplay recently revealed to be coming in February 2024 combining the online pools of PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.

We’ll keep you updated when we find more information.
