Renovation of speaker and deputy speaker’s residential building is estimated at N50million. This is despite the fact that a sum of N58.7 million was budgeted on same in 2024.
A review of the Kogi State 2025 proposed budget has shown that a sum of N12 million has been earmarked to construct overhead tanks in the House of Assembly members’ houses.
In the document, a budget description “construction of overhead tank to each of the twenty-five honourable member’s house” was written. A sum of N12 million was however earmarked for this purpose.
Other sums budgeted in the document are listed for instance as; maintenance of the generating set at Assembly complex, honourable speakers’ lodge and legislative quarters earmarked at N50 million.
Another sum of N20 million was budgeted for construction and furnishing of the assembly cafeteria.
A sum of N50 million was also budgeted for provision of twenty-six laptops to all honourable members and the clerk.
Renovation of Assembly chambers and offices are expected to take N75 million.
Another budget item was described as “construction of committee room for honorable member” and was pegged at N110.251 million.

These developments come amid lamentations on scarcity of funds by state governments including Kogi state.
There have been concerns on prudence in the management of funds by different state governments including transparency and accountability issues.
States rely heavily on loans to meet their fiscal needs, in turn spending much on debt servicing which experts say deny states meaningful developments in key sectors such as health, education, water provision among others.
