Kobbie Mainoo picked up a hamstring injury against Spurs earlier this month.
He was substituted at half-time and Manchester United went on to lose 3-0 at Old Trafford.
The 19-year-old continued to play through it against Porto and Aston Villa before the international break.
After being selected for the England squad, he withdrew as a precaution, with United believing that his injury was not major.
However, it was announced last week that he would be out for weeks and will not return until November.

Today, Kobbie Mainoo provided fans a three-word update on his recovery progress, which seems to be going well.
A social media post simply read: ‘Be right back’.
The teenager’s United team-mates were quick to support him in the comment section.
Alejandro Garnacho replied ‘Back soon’, while captain Bruno Fernandes said ‘Waiting on you star boy’.
Prior to his injury, Mainoo started every Premier League game for United this season.
Without him, United beat Brentford at home last Saturday, but only managed a draw away to Fenerbahce on Thursday.
He will be one of seven absentess for United’s trip to London to face West Ham on Sunday.

His talents will be missed, as United aim to win consecutive Premier League games for the first time this season.
On Monday, Mainoo will travel to Paris for the Ballon d’Or award ceremony, as he was nominated for the Kopa Trophy.
Many believe that he will have a good chance of winning the award, after helping England reach the EURO 2024 final.
However, it will be a tough task to beat out Barcelona superstar Lamine Yamal, who was voted Young Player of the Tournament.
