According to authorities, two officers were sitting in their marked police vehicle wrapping up a domestic call near Eldert Street & Central Avenue in Bushwick, when a 26-year-old emotionally disturbed man approached the patrol car and tapped on the window to get the officers attention.

When the pair of officers exited their patrol vehicle, the disturbed individual allegedly brandished two knives before charging at officers.

According to Chief of Patrol John Chell, “They (officers) tried to quickly, verbally de-escalate, to no avail,” said Chell during a press conference at the scene.

The two officers gave the suspect multiple commands to drop the knife before using non lethal force. The cops deployed their tasers causing the armed individual to fall to the ground and drop one of the knives, cops said.

Officials then said the 26-year-old man got back up after briefly being stunned and holding at least one knife to then charge at officers who opened fire on the crazed man.

The suspect was transported to an area hospital with multiple gunshot wounds where he was pronounced dead.
