All the way back on November 22, 2013, Killer Instinct graced the world once again with its hype combos and awesome music, and now it’s reached its final form.
Microsoft and Iron Galaxy have now released Killer Instinct Anniversary Edition as the game’s last big update and upgrade.
Those looking to jump back into the game will find a new, expansive balance patch that adjusts a majority of the characters as well as a new user interface including new portraits on the fighter select screen.
You can find the full list of patch notes for KI Anniversary Edition here.
Moreover, matchmaking has received an upgrade as well as Anniversary Edition now being able to run at 4K on the Xbox Series X and 1440p on the Series S.
Steam also now includes a free to play version after all this time while the rotation of free characters has been expanded to the full 29 characters.
Anniversary Edition replaces the paid version of KI for a total of $30 currently, and content can no longer be purchased separately.
They claim that “anyone who has bought Premium content for the previous versions of Killer Instinct (Editions, Fighters, etc.) will get upgraded to the Anniversary Edition for free” though it’s still a bit unclear as to what that means for giving players content they didn’t buy before.
The Steam version has been given a few new pieces of content as well with permanent VIP double XP boosters and specialty colors for Gargos.
Players who have the Windows version of KI will apparently need to uninstall and redownload the game completely from this page or finding it in the Windows Store.
