In what looks like a direct affront to the zero-tolerance for criminality stance of the new administration, kidnappers in Calabar have unleashed a tripartite onslaught abducting three citizens at different locations and time in one day.
According to a post from Agba Jalingo’s Facebook wall, One Professor George Iniodu, a lecturer with the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS), was abducted by gunmen yesterday in Calabar.
In a related development, two other persons said to be staff of the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH), Babara Brownson and Mike Njagu were also abducted last night near Ikot Efa by Ashley Restaurant, Calabar.
Confirming the incident the Police Public Relations Officer, Irene Ugbo said they got the signal and the police are on top of the situation. She also informed that the security council meeting held yesterday will yield more results in combating crimes within the state as the governor has promised to equip the force with the necessary facilities to curb crimes.
Recall that on the assumption of office, during his oath-taking as governor of Cross River state, Sen. Prince Bassey Otu had given a warning signal to criminals to either turn a new leaf or relocate from the state as he will not accommodate their activities while rolling out an amnesty plan for them.
Recently the Governor held a security council meeting and decisions were reached. Addressing the press, the Commissioner of Police informed that steps are being taken to wipe the state of notorious criminals. He use the opportunity to call on criminals elements in the state to take advantage of the governor’s amnesty window.
