A brand spankin’ new expansion to Warner Bros. and NetherRealm Studios’ blockbuster fighting title, Mortal Kombat 1, is en route and set for launch this September. A lot of fans are excited to get their hands on Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns, an update that will introduce new story chapters, new characters, modes, finishers, and more.
When this big expansion was first announced, there was some messaging surrounding its release that wasn’t the clearest and resulted in confusion among fans. The folks behind the game took to social media today to release an infographic that lays out all of the Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns buying options and features a checklist that details everything you can expect to get with each package.
The official Mortal Kombat 1 Twitter account shared an image that provides all the information you need to know about buying Khaos Reigns.
Getting right into it, fans have three different ways they can access the upcoming expansion. With the two first options, players will need to already own a copy of the base Mortal Kombat 1 game, though there does exist one package that includes it as well.
The infographic shows the base game option stacked side-by-side with the Khaos Reigns expansion options. Players can opt to pick up just the expansion, a bundle, or the “Kollection.”
If you already own the MK1 base game, going for the simple expansion option will get you access to the main paid content from Khaos Reigns. As the checklist shows, the expansion nets you the new story chapters and Kombat Pack 2 which includes Cyrax, Sektor, Noob Saibot, and guest characters Ghostface from Scream, the T-1000 from Terminator 2, and Conan the Barbarian.
The expansion is likely what most current Mortal Kombat 1 players will opt to pick up, especially if they already own most of the content from season 1.
Next up is the bundle option, which is a more pricey pick, but includes everything from the expansion option with the addition of Kombat Pack 1. Like the expansion, the bundle does not come with the base game, so this option is for folks who may have bought Mortal Kombat 1 already, but never opted to pick up its DLC.
Kombat Pack 1, as many of us know, comes equipped with six additional main roster fighters — Omni-Man, Peacemaker, Homelander, Quan Chi, Ermac, and Takeda — as well as five DLC Kameo Fighters and the Jean-Claude Van Damme skin for Johnny Cage.
If you haven’t picked up Mortal Kombat 1 in any form, then the final purchase option is likely perfect for you. The Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns Kollection option is essentially an ultimate edition that includes the base MK1 game, the new story chapters, Kombat Pack 2, Kombat Pack 1, and an extra 1,250 Dragon Krystals which allow you to purchase cosmetics and other goodies from the in-game shop.
We already know that Kombat Pack 2 will not be available as a standalone purchase as it is wrapped up in the rest of the new paid content that Khaos Reigns is offering. So if you’re looking to get the closest to just picking up KP2, you’d do so by purchasing the expansion option.
Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns and all of its buying options will all be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
