There’s only around 9 days left until the launch of Mortal Kombat 1’s Khaos Reigns expansion, and it’s certainly looking like there’s still more to learn about what’s going to be included in the huge update to the fighting game.
Some new information coming out appears to likely confirm previously leaked content is indeed going to be part of the chaotic upgrade to MK1.
NetherRealm Studios has of course been up front about the new Story Mode, the long-awaited return of Animalities and the first three DLC characters of Cyrax Sektor and Noob Saibot, but that certainly won’t be all.
There’s a couple of recent articles coming out of both Xbox Wire, which detailed Noob’s extensive move set, and Nintendo that share a bit more about what players can expect soon.
“The Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns expansion is not just a massive drop of story, modes, skins, palettes, new and adjusted moves, bloody new Brutalities, all-new Animalities, and other bits, chunks, and tweaks,” reads the Xbox Wire post.
Nintendo’s post also highlights new modes, skins, attacks and gameplay adjustments as well.
Up to this point, however, we haven’t really heard anything official about new games modes outside of the story though there has been talk unofficially.
Few articles are now being published confirming “new modes”.

The well-regarded leaker and “Verified Insider” on Reddit, _FateUnknown_, recently reappeared for a few brief posts online to share what else should be available to everyone once the expansion goes live.
They claimed that at least two new modes will be added in Khaos Reigns later this month alongside the other content.
The first of which is pretty straight-forward with an Online Practice mode, which is becoming more and more common in fighting games now again and is always appreciated.
Number two remains a bit more mysterious, however, being something reportedly named Warrior Shrine.
At first it was presumed that Warrior Shrine would simply be a way to unlock / acquire previous Kombat League and seasonal skins or items a players missed out on, but the leaker said that’s not the case.
In previous games, the Warrior Shrine has appeared as a stage / location on Shang Tsung’s island as well as Mortal Kombat 11’s Krypt where statues can be found of kombatants.
How that will translate over to MK1, we’ll have to wait a little longer it seems to learn more.
Something we’ve also gotten to see a bit of through the recent trailers and showcases is new moves being added to existing Kameo fighters, but it’s not clear what the extent of that is going to be — and if that extends to the regular cast of characters as well.
On top of the Animalities, this gives us confirmation that new Brutalities are coming to MK1, so we’ll have to see if they’re fighter-specific or situationally available.
NetherRealm has already revealed the gameplay trailers for Cyrax, Sektor and now Noob Saibot, meaning they’re running out of time and places to unveil the rest of the new content coming in Khaos Reigns.
The best place to potentially learn more about Warrior Shrine and Online Practice is going to be during Noob’s Kombat Kast, which will presumably take place later this week though a time hasn’t been confirmed yet.
Khaos Reigns is set to launch on September 24 with the aforementioned content and characters while Scream’s Ghostface, the Terminator’s T-1000 and Conan the Barbarian are slated to hit MK1 sometime in 2025.
The countdown to Khaos is growing ever closer.
