The Brutalities in Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns tend to be, well… brutal. These special finishers aren’t quite as big and grandiose as their Fatality relatives, but these quick hitting maneuvers are certainly visceral and violent as well.
Brutalities in Khaos Reigns often involve an opponent being split in half or their head being torn off, which is definitely hard to watch, however, one of the newest of these finishers goes a different route and is actually very silly on the surface. When you really think about it, though, this Brutality might actually be the game’s most sinister, evil, and brutal of the bunch.
Footage of all of the new DLC characters’ Brutalities has already hit the internet as the big update was released earlier this week. As a result, we’ve gotten the chance to witness all of the new finishers for Sektor, Cyrax, and Noob Saibot.
A Twitter user named AlcrisEdenia uploaded footage of one of Noob Saibot’s Brutalities, and to be perfectly honest, the whole thing is overtly comical. Not only that, but this Brutality doesn’t even involve any blood whatsoever (that we can see).
With this finisher, Noob tosses a portal underneath his foe, to which they fall in and reappear from another portal that is directly above the grounded one and is hidden off-screen. Like the classic game Portal, the two entries make it so that the object that has been sent through one of them keeps reappearing and traveling infinitely through each ending up in an non-stop loop — and in this case, the object is Noob Saibot’s opponent.
As you might expect, with this Brutality we see the foe put into a perpetual falling state as they enter the bottom portal and reappear from the top one only to repeat this again and again and again.
When you first see it, this Brutality is hilarious and is very likely meant to come off as such. However, when you stop and really think about what’s going on here, this finisher is actually horrifying.
Most Brutalities in Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns see an extremely violent act take place that lasts a handful of seconds, and while in that moment there is no doubt a lot of suffering from the fighter being hit with it, by the end of the maneuver they are usually finished off and gone.
With Noob’s, though, the opponent is put into an infinite loop of suffering only to be released at Bi-Han’s discretion. As one user mentioned in the comments of the Twitter clip, “there are fates worse than death,” and this is certainly one of them.
There’s an argument to be made that this Brutality is actually the most cruel, the most evil, and the most brutal of the entire lot.
